Music & Sound For The Moving Image - Foley Task

Please got to the shared work drive (music tech folder) and copy the video 'Oktapodi Short.mov' to your scratch drive

The aim of this task is to add foley effects to the video to represent that action happening on screen.

Remember to set up your project correctly:-

Add the secondary ruler from the arrange area view menu
Change the display to custom view so you can see SMPTE time
Change the sample rate of your project in project settings to 48KHz (to meet the audio standard for DVD's.
Import the video using the import movie option in the file menu to ensure it is located correctly in your project
Save the project, naming it correctly, as a folder rather than package, and make sure that copy audio files and movie files is selected

You are now ready to start the foley process.

1 - Watch the video carefully, noting down all effects needed, with timings, to create a shopping list for effects

2 - Gather together all of the sound effects needed, and place in the audio files folder of your project file

3 - Drag and drop all audio effects in to the project media browser in Logic

4 - Roughly spot the sound effects using the timing list you made in step 1

5 - Finesses the position of each effect by zooming in and using the scrub feature - remember scrub also works with flex time - and SMPTE Lock each effect to ensure it is tied to the time ruler, and won't change position with any tempo changes you make later when adding music

6 - Set the levels and position of audio in the stereo field, based on the movement you see on screen
