Planning For A Career In Music Task 1.1/1.2 Guidance

Task 1.1/1.2

A. An assessment of current knowledge and skills (skills audit)

General Skills

List each relevant skill with real world examples to demonstrate your abilities. Give as much details as possible, and be honest when assessing your current qualities

List any skills where you feel you need to make improvements, stating reasons why

Specialist Skills

This should include any specialist skills and knowledge you have. For example, competency in software packages/equipment/playing ability etc, again giving real world evidence to show your skill level.

B. An overview of current aspirations and goals

A minimum of three aspirations/goals

These don’t have to be directly related to a specific job, they can be short and long term goals relating to improving your skills and knowledge (general or specialist), but should include some direction in terms of your long term employment aspirations. For example University/Work Experience/Job Areas etc.

C. An assessment of knowledge and skills required to attain the goals

Consider what knowledge and skills are required to achieve your aspirations/goals for the future, saying how and why they are required

D. An assessment of how current music and education activities will contribute to the attainment of the identified goals
How will your current education and other related activities help you to achieve these goals? Think carefully about your course, what you have learned so far, and how this links with your aspirations

E. A schedule for ongoing review of progress towards goals

How will you manage working towards gaining the required skills and knowledge that will help you to achieve this? At what points will you review your progress to allow you to ensure you meet your targets? This needs to include a timetable for reviewing your own progress
