RSL Awards Subsidiary Diploma Year 1 - 4 AREAS OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

In preparation for Unit 349 - Planning for a career in music, i would like you to create a blog post that gives an overview of the four main areas of the music industry:-

Live Performance, Record Companies, Music Publishing, and Artist Management

For each area, you need to research and give an overview of the purpose and function of the area, how it works, and consider whether there are alternative models in a particular area. For example you could look at the differences between independent and major record labels, a small pub gig compared to a larger tour, independent compared to major publishers, and an up and coming artist manager compared to an established artist manager.

Include a section about the relationship between each area and the music industry as a whole. You should look at the connection between the different areas and how they relate to each other.

What other industries does the Music industry have relationships with

What music related job roles exist in each area?

What are the skills and knowledge required to work in a particular job

What career progression options exist (how would you work your way up to that job, and where could you progress to afterwards?

This task requires you to spend a considerable amount of time reading and researching each area and its associated job roles, and you will need to provide a bibliography/webography to show your sources of information. Please use your judgement when researching and use up to date, professional and recognised sources for your information

You can use the format set out below to help you organise the information you find and set it out in a useful way

Area:

Function/Purpose :

How Does It Work:

Alternative Model:

Associated Job Roles: Include the following information about each job role - purpose/tasks/skills/progression/employment type/typical salary/your opinion on the role

Your write up on all 4 areas needs to be completed and posted on your blog ready for our lesson at 8.50am on Friday 27th April 2018
