Music & Society - Music & Politics

Layout idea.....

Start of with a historical look at Patronage in the arts, how this linked to class, and what todays legacy of this is - think about mainstream education, the trend for internships rather than apprenticeships, and what impact this has on access to the arts (cultural capital and social mobility)

Copyright was the first legislation to directly affect music - the Statute Of Anne and the Berne Convention were the two main pieces of legislation. More recent legislation might include the Criminal Justice Bill, and legislation around noise, drinks and music licensing etc and the impact on smaller venues. How city living has affected live music?

Have a look at the Department For Culture, Media and Sport and find out what their purpose is.
